⚙ Material & Surface Treatment
Tubes are cold-drawn from low-alloy carbon steel conforming to EN 10025 S355 specification. The cold-drawing process refines the grain structure and produces a smooth bore finish that reduces telescoping friction without additional lubrication in moderate-duty applications. Contact lobes receive induction hardening to 58–62 HRC. External surfaces are finished with yellow zinc phosphate passivation as standard; hot-dip galvanising is available on request for coastal or high-humidity UK farm environments such as those found across the Somerset Levels or the Fens of Lincolnshire.

During operation the tractor PTO shaft rotates at 540 rpm or 1000 rpm. The rotational force is carried through the universal joint cross kit, into the outer triangular tube, and transmitted to the inner tube via the three-lobe mating faces. When the implement oscillates vertically — for example as a disc harrow crosses a furrow — the inner tube slides within the outer tube, changing the effective driveline length without breaking torque continuity. The triangular profile prevents relative rotation between the two tubes while permitting this axial travel, functioning as both a torque key and a sliding spline in a single geometry.
