You should replace the shear bolt immediately after any overload release event \u2014 never reuse a bolt that has sheared, even partially, as the material properties of the shear zone will have been altered and the release torque will be unpredictable. The replacement bolt must be the correct grade as specified for your series, as the shear strength \u2014 and therefore the release torque \u2014 is determined by the bolt’s cross-sectional area and material grade in combination. Using a higher-grade substitute bolt to “strengthen” the limiter will defeat the purpose of the device and may result in implement or driveline damage during the next overload event.
